It was organized for the purpose of rendering service to churches and to society by helping each other, building up their Christian character with the help of the teaching of the Bible and fulfilling their missionary task by yielding to the will of God.
With its first meeting in April, 1920, the Young Men's Christian Association quickened and established the Chosun Association of the Christian Youth Organization of Diligence in December, 1924. By the oppression of Japanese Imperialism it had been dissolved compulsorily and forbidden of their activities for 10 years started from 1938.

After the national independence, its general assembly was re-held at Saemunan Church concerning the reconstituting of the association in 1949. In May, 1958 at Youngnak Church, it divided itself into three groups, a student association group, youth association and Men's Association of Diligence.

The Men's Association of Diligence used its name for some time and changed to the Laymen Association in 1969, and to Korea Presbyterian Men’s Association in 1977 and was renamed as the Laymen Association of the Presbyterian Church of Korea continued until today.
